BARC(Bhabha Atomic Research Centre) Medical Analyser to enable objective study of homoeopathy

Mumbai: Use of Medical Analyser developed by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre has shown that it would enable a better understanding of the selective action of homoeopathic medicines in different strengths on human beings.
Researches done by BARC, Regional Research Institute of Central Council for Research in homoeopathy, Mumbai, National Institute of Homoeopathy, Kolkata and Fr Muller
Homoeopathic Medical College (FMHMC), Mangalore have indicated potential use of physiological variability in fundamental research in homoeopathy.
“The data reveals the selective action of homoeopathic medicines in different potencies especially in Heart Rate Variability (HRV), Blood Flow Variability (BFV) and Morphology Index Variability (MIV),” Dr Srinath Rao of FMHMC said during the Meeting on Advanced applications of Physiological variability held at BARC here last week.
Homoeopathy medicines beyond 12th potency do not contain even a single atom or molecule of the medicinal substance. Yet these medicines are effective in the treatment of large number of diseases and particularly the ones that are considered incurable in modern medicine.
Electronic division of BARC has been actively working on this aspect of homoeopathic medicines for the past three decades and their initial experiments with potencised medicines have recorded 50 to 150 per cent increase in the blood flow in affected parts of the body within 30 minutes of the indicated medicine in variety of patients, Rao said in his paper on `Fundamental Research in Homoeopathy: Experiments with SULPHUR` presented at the Meet.
“The reproducibility of these experiments largely depended upon the choice of indicated medicine, which was determined subjectively,” Rao said.
But with the development of Medical Analyser, BARC scientists, headed by J D Jindal, have shown that physiological variability show change in the spectrum caused by randomly selected potentised medicine and randomly selected control subjects (volunteers) in 2004 and “this opened the door to us for using physiological variability in the field of homoeopathy,” Rao said.
“We used in our experiments with SULPHUR, Anu Photo Rheograph developed by BARC which is based on the principles of Photo Plethysmography also developed by it,” Rao said.
Dr Nirupama Mishra and colleagues from National Institute of Homoeopathy, C Nayak from the Department of AYUSH along with other private doctors carried out an exploratory scientific trial on 72 healthy volunteers, studied different potencies of Aconitum Napellus and Nux Vomica with the placebo control.
Homoeopathy is one of the leading alternative systems of medicine worldwide introduced by Dr Samuel Christian Hahnemann (1755-1843). Since its introduction to the mankind, its basic principles have not changed as homoeopathy is primarily a specialised system of rational therapy based on fixed and definite laws of nature.
Homoeopathy has been mired in controversy due to its concept of drug dynamisation leading to ultra diluted form of medicines. “Since these kinds of medicines do not come under any measurable pharmacological standards, the attention of scientific fraternity has been focused on this apparent lack of existence of material substance in homoeopathic medicine and to its potency concept in the light of Avogadro`s law, rather than on its effectiveness,” Mishra said.
Both Rao and Mishra pointed out that it was necessary that more medicines and potencies are to be investigated with this scientific tool for the welfare of the humanity. Courtesy- Zee.com PTI
Latest study reveals homoeopathy a highly scientific Nano-Medicine
Posted by Dr.M.Rizwan Ali
Debunking the often repeated debate of quashing Homoeopathic medicine–‘sweet milk powder pills’—as mere ‘placebo’, a latest study has shown that Homoeopathy may be a highly scientific ‘Nano-medicine’.
“Even the highest dilutions of remedies have left signatures of respective original molecules in their Nano-particle form, when subjected to electron microscopy studies, validated later by wavelength analysis,” claims Prof. Jayesh R Bellare of the prestigious IIT-Bombay.
Prof. Jayesh, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, was sharing findings of his ongoing research on the “Materials Science of Homoeopathic Medicines: A Nano particulate Perspective” with the delegates of the recently concluded 66th World Homoeopathic Congress of Liga Homoeopathica Medicorum Internationalism (LMHI).
This gains significance when massive investments had been made world over in the so-called modern medicine to encourage Nano-medicine to find out medicated Nano-particles that could target a chosen diseased cell or cells to treat the sick.
Jayesh’s initial experience in analyzing the Physico-Chemical properties of “Bhasmas” of Indian System of Medicine Ayurveda and later characterizing their composition has prompted Jayesh to extend his research to Homoeopathic drugs.
The interest in the research further intensified with the so-called modern system of medicine, Allopath, not prepared to accept homoeopathy as a medicine as the latter does not contain any molecules and hence no effect on cell biology.
Samples of various batches of drugs made of different “elements” such as Aurum Metallicum, Cuprum Metallicum and Zincum Metallicum in different potencies starting from 30C, 200C and higher were collected and were subjected to electron microscopy study.
The homoeopathic dilutions of potencies above 12X are supposed not to contain any molecules as propounded by the Avogadro’s Hypothesis. But surprisingly, the crystalline structures of each drug had their finger print of the basic element of its origin were exhibited even in higher potencies.
Latest study reveals homeopathy a highly scientific Nano-medicine
Their electron diffraction of each element in the dilution had measured 5 to 10 nanometers. This was again validated using wavelength studies and their results graphed. This proves beyond doubt that the homoeopathic drugs in the higher potencies ranging from 30 C exhibit the Nano-particulate character of the original elements/molecules they were made of.
Further studies are on with other higher potencies to characterize the Nano-particles of each drug.
Even substances hitherto considered “inert” like Lycopodium, Gold and Platinum, would work wonders on human beings as powerful remedies when their innate potential is brought out through what was described as “succession, triturating, potentisation or dynamisation’ discovered by its founder Samuel Hahnemann, unique to Homoeopathy.
Meanwhile, Dr Alexander Tournier, principal investigator, Homoeopathy Research Institute, London, said we have to build homoeopathy on the “principles of physics” to face the criticism of the system from others.
He told the WHC how succession process could ‘break the quantum domain’ of the medical substance and accelerates/decelerates protein, like electro-magnetic waves do, in the higher dilution of homoeopathic drugs that does not contain any molecules.
Dr Joseph M Schmidt from the University of Munich, Germany also favoured application of quantum physics as against conventional concepts of materialistic methods and epistemology for homoeopathic drugs.

Homeopathy fast becoming preferred mode of treatment in India
Posted by Dr.M.Rizwan Ali
Homeopathy is not a placebo but is effective in treating many serious diseases, including certain kinds of cancer, and costs just one-fifth of allopathic medication, say experts in the field of homeopathy that is fast becoming a preferred mode of treatment for many in India.
Homeopathic medicines, sourced from plants, “can cure cancer in the initial stages and can cure certain kinds of cancer completely, like breast cancer,” said Sushil Vats, senior homeopathic consultant and one of the main organizers at an international homeopathy event in the capital.
In fact, at the 66th World Homeopathic Congress of Limhi (Liga Medicorum Homeopathica Internationalis) here, a case study of a double side breast cancer patient who was treated successfully with homeopathy was presented. According to Vats, the patient was a “Stage five” case.
“Homeopathy can effectively support ongoing allopathic treatment in all types of cancers, improve the quality of life of the patient and also the life span,” Vats told IANS on the sidelines of the Dec 1-4 conference.
He said that homeopathy can effectively treat diabetes, thyroid, hypertension, AIDS, asthama, but the results vary from case to case. Sometimes a patient may take longer to show results, he said. “In cases treated for many years with allopathy, it becomes difficult to treat with homeopathy as the patients develop homeopathy drug dependency,” he said.
Homeopathy is in fact the number two preferred mode of treatment, after allopathy, in India, as per the government of India survey, and it costs just a fraction, he said. Besides, homeopathy has no side effects or adverse effects, he added.
According to R.K. Manchanda, deputy director (homeopathy) in the Directorate of Indian System of Medicine and Homeopathy, government of NCT and Delhi, the Delhi government “is regularly opening homeopathic dispensaries”. At present there are 92 homeopathic dispensaries in the capital, mostly in poor areas, which together see around 1.8 million patients a year.
“Mostly, the patients come to these dispensaries with difficult problems like arthritis, skin allergies and chronic gastric problem and with renal stone complaints,” Manchanda told IANS.
Manchanda recounted a survey he and a colleague had done in 2005, which showed that homeopathy costs “just one fifth of allopathic treatment to provide day-to-day care”.
The conference, attended by 2,500 delegates from 35 countries, was aimed to project India as a “hub of homeopathy in the world”, he said.
If homeopathy is so effective in treating so many difficult diseases, then why was it described as a placebo in a study by Lancet?
According to Vats, the study by Lancet was “biased”. He said in the UK, the National Health Service runs many homeopathy clinics and they get a “huge budget”. During the recession, the allopathic companies were hit and they floated the theory of homeopathy being a placebo in order to get the government withdraw the budget, he said.
Eswar Das, consultant advisor to the government on homeopathy, said the Lancet study was “not based on homeopathy concepts and philosophy”. Explaining, he said, homeopathy does not give one standard dose of a medicine to all patients suffering from a disease. Homeopathy studies the patient in terms of the symptoms, body type, nature, likes, dislikes, etc., and then prescribes the dose of medicine accordingly.
“In India, homeopathy has proper recognition. There is a believability and it is an effective form of treatment,” said Manchanda.
Stressing on purity of homeopathic medicine, the government has made manufacturers, who initially numbered around 200, comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for quality assurance. With this coming into force, there are now only around 30 firms that manufacture homeopathic medicines in India, said Vats. The market in India is worth around Rs.1,000 crore. The homeopathic medicine market has grown manifold in last 4-5 years, he informed.
Eswar Das said though homeopathy was “born in Germany it has flourished in India”. The system of healing was founded by German doctor Samuel Christian Hahnemann (1755).
Breast Cancer: Homeopathic Remedies Effective and Non-toxic? A study published in the International Journal of Oncology showed that homeopathic remedies have a similar action to chemotherapy but none of their toxicity.
Posted by Dr.M.Rizwan Ali
Dr Moshe Frenkel, the lead researcher for this study said, ”We felt that homeopathy needed to be tested in the same way that we test new chemotherapeutic drugs. We were quite impressed to find that homeopathic remedies have similar effects to chemotherapy on breast cancer cells but without affecting normal cells, a very exciting finding.”
The homeopathic remedies tested included: Carcinosin; Conium maculatum; Phytolacca decandra; and Thuja occidentalis which, along with others, have a long history of use in breast cancer by homeopaths.
The researchers concluded, “the ultra-diluted natural homeopathic remedies investigated in this study offer the promise of being effective preventive and/or therapeutic agents for breast cancer and worthy of further study.”
Let’s hope this research takes place.
Homeopathy Plus! Comment: Please note that there is no one homeopathic remedy for all types of breast cancer. Different symptom presentations in different sufferers will require a different remedy. The remedies tested by the researchers are just some of those that may be helpful in breast cancer. Homeopathy is a safe and non-toxic system of medicine but it does require serious study and application if it is to be practised well. Please consult a qualified homeopath if you wish to use homeopathy when cancer is present.

Homeopathic Remedies Effective Against Melanoma?
Brazilian scientists have shown that potentised remedies were able to reduce and control the spread of melanoma tumors.
Melanoma is an aggressive form of skin cancer. While it accounts for less than 5% of all skin cancer cases it is responsible for a large percentage of skin cancer deaths. It’s the fastest growing of all cancer groups and worldwide is increasing in incidence.
Surviving melanoma largely depends on how quickly it is detected and excised. The best chance of cure comes from the early surgical removal of thin tumors. Once the melanoma has spread (metastasized) or thickened, survival rates plummet.
Normal chemotherapeutic options are limited and not very successful with melanoma. They are also associated with significant side effects such as bone marrow damage, reduced blood quality, and pronounced nausea or vomiting.
But perhaps a better and more humane approach to this deadly disease is on the horizon.
Brazilian researchers have now shond that a complex (mixture) of homeopathic remedies was able to:
Prevent melanoma and bowel cancer cells from invading or sticking to the cells and tissues that surrounded them,
- Improve the immune system’s ability to kill cancer cells,
- Cause cancerous melanoma tumors to shrink or become dormant
This complex was tested repeatedly in both in vivo tests (using laboratory animals) and in in vitro tests using melanoma and colon cancer cells.
The potentised remedies included: Aconitum napellus; Arsenicum album; Asafoetida; Calcarea carbonica; Conium maculatum; Ipecacuanha; Phosphorus; Rhus toxicodendron; Silicea; Sulphur; and Thuja occidentalis.
